Our Take 

The New Balance 1540 has been loved by the medical community for is overall motion control for various foot ailments.  However, the shoe needed an update and after a long wait we now have the 1540V4.

Although the shoe is still focused on motion control, the shoe gets big updates in terms of fit and feel.  Finding the balance between soft comfort and stability is always a tricky balance but with New Balance’s firmest durometer of Fresh Foam X midsole, in conjunction with a ROLLBAR stability post, New Balance hopes it has found that balance.

Overall the 1540 will remain that key stability shoe that it is intended to be, but we also believe it will work for a broader range of people, especially with the improved fit.

Technology 

• Fresh Foam X midsole foam with approximately 3% bio-based.
• ROLLBAR stability post system helps control rear-foot movement for enhanced support.
• A straighter, deeper last accommodated a foot with more volume and/or an deeper orthotic.
